A total of seven crew were rescued in two incidents off the coasts this morning.

The 19 metre vessel, Christ Marie, ran on to rocks in Glandore Harbour, in West Cork, with a crew of three on board at 6 a.m. The three were taken on board another fishing vessel, the Coral Strand.

Hours later, the Coast Guard's Shannon-based helicopter rescued four crew from the 25 metre trawler, Shearwater IIafter a fire broke out 60 miles west-north-west of Loop Head, Co Clare, at about 10 a.m. The four crew were in the liferaft when the helicopter arrived, and were taken to hospital.

Two of the four were suffering from smoke inhalation, but there were no serious injuries.
