Seven food businesses were closed last month for breaches of food safety legislation.

Seven food businesses were closed last month for breaches of food safety legislation.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland today published details of orders served by environmental health officers in March.

The seven businesses included a section of the exclusive St Stephen’s Green Hibernian Club in Dublin, which had its basement and basement yard area closed.

Also ordered to close were the Thai Orchid restaurant, 7 Westmoreland Street in Dublin 2, Lemon Café Bar (food kitchen only), 42 St Stephen’s Street, Dublin 2 and the Oriental Express Takeaway, 140 Parnell Street, Dublin 1.

In west Dublin, the Netpol grocery at unit 9 Tyrrelstown Avenue, Dublin 15 was closed for the sale of cooked meats, cheeses and ready-to-eat foods.

The Ocean Palace Chinese restaurant, Main Street, Swinford, Co Mayo was also closed.

In Cork, Superbites takeaway on New Street, Newmarket, was ordered to close.

FSAI chief executive Prof Alan Reilly said vigilance was always required in relation to food safety and that standards “must not be permitted to slip to such levels that consumer health is put at risk”.

“Food business operators must recognise that the legal onus is on them to be responsible and ensure that the food they serve is safe to eat.”
