Seven men were today charged with conspiring to steal almost €1 million from a cash-in-transit van in Celbridge, Co Kildare, on Friday.
The seven, including the man who was allegedly the driver of the vehicle, appeared at Kilmainham District Court in Dublin. All were remanded in custody.
The men have all been charged with conspiracy to commit a theft.
Security was tight at the courthouse, with scores of plain-clothes gardaí inside the courtroom and gardaí outside.
At 10.20am, unmarked Garda vehicles pulled up outside the building, and the accused were taken past photographers and television cameras to a side door into the court.
Alan Bradley (33), of Cappagh Road, Finglas; Wayne Bradley (28), of Ratoath Road, Finglas; Eamon Dunne (31), of Dunsoughly Drive, Finglas; Jefferey Murrow (25), of Hazelcroft Road, Finglas; and Joseph Warren (25), of Belclare Crescent, Ballymun, were remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.
Daryl Caffrey (33) of Cherry Park, Rivervalley, Swords, was also remanded in custody to appear at the same court on Wednesday.
A bail application made on behalf of Michael Ryan (34) of Carton Drive, Ballymun, was refused by Judge John Lindsay. Mr Ryan was also remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.
After the hearing, the men were taken to Cloverhill Prison.
The court heard today that €955,000 was being carried in the security van that was the target of the failed robbery on Friday.
