The injured: Several of those injured in Monday's school bus crash in Co Meath were discharged from hospitals in Drogheda and Navan yesterday.
By last night the number of victims of the crash still in hospital was down to eight: six in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and two in Our Lady's Hospital, Navan. Seven of those are students who had been travelling home from second-level schools in Navan when the accident occurred. The eighth is the driver of one of two cars also involved in the collision.
A spokeswoman for the Health Service Executive (HSE) - North Eastern Area said all those now in hospital were in a stable condition. Six of them had been listed as critical the night before.
Among those released from hospital yesterday were the driver of the school bus and the driver of the second car involved in the crash.
A total of 26 casualties had been brought to the Drogheda hospital and 27 to the Navan hospital.
The HSE yesterday paid tribute to staff of both hospitals who had turned up for duty voluntarily following the accident on Monday evening, and although they worked late into the night, they were still back on duty early yesterday.
"This was really appreciated by everybody and worked well," the HSE spokeswoman said.
