Sinn Féin leader, Mr Gerry Adams, today questioned the commitment of Northern Ireland First Minister to the Belfast Agreement hours before Mr David Trimble’s expected resignation.

"If David Trimble was wedded to the Good Friday Agreement he would not be resigning," said Mr Adams.

Speaking at a book-signing in Dublin this afternoon, Mr Adams said that the importance of the Agreement had to be emphasised over the next six weeks. "We have to get back to the Good Friday Agreement," he said.

Mr Adams said the unionist approach to the process should not be dominated by "kamikaze politics. The way to sort this out is to underpin politics, to make politics work," he said.
