British government whips today moved to quash reports that Sinn Féin's four MPs had been allocated the most magnificent office in the Palace of Westminster.
Deputy chief whip Mr Keith Hill said Sinn Féin leader Mr Gerry Adams and his three colleagues had been given tiny Commons rooms that "most other MPs wouldn't be seen dead in".
He said press reports claiming the republicans were to get a newly restored Victorian office with hand-painted ceilings and panoramic views of Westminster had got the wrong room.
The offices allocated to Sinn Féin were two floors above those described in the press - which had in fact been given to four senior Tory backbenchers.
"The rooms that the four Sinn Féin MPs have been allocated are extremely modest at the very top of the building and, far from having magnificent views, they have very little or no natural light," he said.
