The Scottish Football Association today took another step towards bidding for the Euro 2008 finals by selecting three proposals for ground development.

The SFA believes it needs at least one extra 30,000-seater stadia to mount a successful bid for the tournament and millions of pounds of public money have been earmarked by the Scottish Executive.

It gave backing to proposals for a brand new ground at Aberdeen and a similar new structure in Dundee to be shared by both Tayside clubs. Also getting the nod were Hibernian's plans to extend the capacity of Easter Road.

But proposals submitted by Hearts, Kilmarnock and Falkirk have been rejected. Falkirk had made a bid for financial help to build a new stadium to replace dilapidated Brockville.

SFA chief executive David Taylor said today: ""There remains a degree of uncertainty about the criteria for hosting the event, and I will be pressing UEFA for clarification on whether six or eight stadia will be required to host the tournament.

"We already have four superb stadia at Hampden, Ibrox, Celtic Park and Murrayfield, and we need to know how many additional stadia should be developed," he said.

The Scots are keen to host the event on their own but have contingency plans to link up with Ireland or Wales.
