The Scottish Football Association have confirmed that allegations of spitting by Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso will be studied on video.
Ayr striker James Grady has accused Amoruso of spitting at him during Saturday's Scottish Cup fourth-round tie at Somerset Park.
Television evidence appears to show the incident clearly, and the matter has been passed on to a review panel who will rule later this week.
Amoruso has dismissed the allegations and accused Grady of making racist comments during the game.
He said: "He called me an Italian b******."
Amoruso maintained: "I have never spat at a player on purpose in my life. It was a complete accident. I was clearing my throat when the player Grady happened to be running past. I did not mean to spit at him."
Grady admitted to name-calling but he denied the suggestion of racism.
Amoruso faces a two-match ban if found guilty.
