There were a number of violent incidents in the Shankill area of Belfast over the weekend, and no sign of an end to the loyalist feud between the UVF and UDA.
British army bomb disposal experts made safe an improvised explosive device discovered on waste ground yesterday morning at Boundary Way, off the Shankill Road.
The device was removed for forensic examination. A number of houses were evacuated during the alert.
A 30-year-old man is expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning after two handguns were discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning at Florence Square, off the Shankill Road.
The discovery was made after what the RUC described as a "planned search". The man was arrested at the scene.
He is due to be charged with having articles available for terrorist use, and making property available for terrorist use.
A gang armed with baseball bats beat a man shortly after 7.00 a.m. on Saturday at a house at Argyle Street, off the Shankill. Supporters of the UDA blamed the UVF for the assault. Almost 170 families have been forced from their homes as a result of the feud, which has also claimed three lives. The UVF and its political wing, the Progressive Unionist Party, said that the majority of cases of house expulsions were as a result of UDA intimidation.
Police are investigating whether a shooting incident in north Belfast is related to the feud. The incident happened at Gainsborough Drive in the Shore Road area when three shots were fired into a house late on Saturday night.
