US software firm Insight Enterprises has chosen Sheffield ahead of Dublin as the base for its new European headquarters. The company announced plans to create more than 1,700 jobs in the economically depressed Sheffield area.
Insight is ranked as one of the top 100 fastest-growing companies in the US, and will invest £67 million sterling in an area with some of the Britain's highest long-term and youth unemployment rates.
Mr Mike Gumbert, president of Insight Direct Worldwide, said "The talented workforce available in South Yorkshire will be an outstanding addition to our incredibly talented and productive technology teams in the United States and Canada."
The company now has a turnover of $2 billion (euro 2.2 billion) and employs 3,400 people worldwide.
