Shelbourne have reclaimed the Premier Division top spot after disposing of Waterford United 2-1 at the RSC this evening.

Pat Fenlon's side wasted little time in asserting themselves against the home side and raced into a two-goal lead with scarcely 10 minutes on the clock.

Ollie Cahill nodded Shels in front after nine minutes before Jason Byrne doubled their advantage two minutes later.

Waterford threatened to make a contest of it after the break and pulled a goal back on 46 minutes but Shelbourne hung on to overtake St Patrick's Athletic at the top of the table.

Rovers dominated the opening exchanges and will have been disappointed not to lead at the break and Bohs punished their hosts 10 minutes into the second half, Glen Crowe getting the final touch to a Robbie Doyle free-kick.

Two minutes later Doyle was on the scoresheet himself having converted a penalty and the visitors looked home and hosed. However, they threw Rovers a lifeline nine minutes from time when they conceded a penalty of their own which debutante Gary Haylock tucked away.
