Shelbourne 2 St Pat's 1
Shelbourne returned to the top of the table tonight after beating St Patrick’s Athletic 2-1 in a hotly contested Dublin derby at Tolka Park.
Shelbourne, still reeling from the decision of the league to restore the nine previously deducted points to St Pat’s, didn’t take long in breaking the deadlock when Stephen Geoghegan converted from the spot on ten minutes after Willie Burke had brought down Davy Byrne.
The lead was extended seven minutes later when Jim Crawford latched on to a Peter Hutton cross and directed the ball into the net. There was some reprieve for Pat’s in the second period when Colm Foley looped a header into the goal but it was too little too late as the hosts held on and leapfrogged their Dublin rivals to go top.
