Justin Sherriff claimed an impressive hat-trick as the Irish men claimed their first win of the European Championships with a 3-0 victory over Russia this afternoon.
After defeat in the opening game against Spain, Ireland bounced back to condemn the Russians to their second defeat of the tournament and boost their own chances of making the knock-out stages
Sherriff struck first midway through the opening period before doubling Ireland's advantage on 46 minutes after some neat approach play by Graham Shaw. The striker sealed the win eight minutes later after being played through by Nigel Buttimer.
Earlier, the Irish women's team went top of Pool B after a 2-1 win over Italy maintained their 100 per cent record.
