Karen Shinkins failed to reproduce the form she displayed in yesterday's heats in Paris tonight and bowed out of the 400m at the semi-final stage.
After clocking a season's best 52.06 seconds at the Stade de France yesterday morning, Shinkins had been hopeful of a sub-52 second run and a place in the final.
However, the Newbridge athlete could only manage a time of 52.74 in the fourth semi-final, coming home last of eight runners.
Belfast's Gareth Turnbull also fell at the semi-final stage of the 1,500m. Turnbull clocked a time of 3:42.01, six seconds shy of his personal best and out of the running for the final.
