A man remains "critically ill" in hospital today after he was shot in the head in a gangland-style attack in south Dublin yesterday afternoon.
The victim, a 24-year-old man from Monasterboice Road in Crumlin, was shot at least twice before being pushed from a car outside a row of shops on Lakelands Road in Stillorgan shortly before 3.45pm. He is being treated in St Vincent's Hospital.
Two men from Walkinstown, aged 21 and 22, were arrested in Firhouse shortly after the shooting. Both were taken to Tallaght Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act and can be detained for up to 72 hours.
A car believed to have been used in the shooting was found burnt out shortly afterwards in Dargle Wood in Knocklyon, south Dublin. A gun and a quantity of cannabis were recovered from the car.
The shooting has been linked to a feud between two families in the Crumlin area.
In the attack, a VW Golf with three men inside pulled up outside the entrance to the shops nearest to Lakelands Drive. The victim was shot at least twice inside the car.
Witnesses saw the other two occupants struggling to pull him from the vehicle. However, when they realised they were being watched they sped from the scene, dumping the wounded man at the entrance to the Lakelands estate, at the junction of Kilmacud Road.
The shooting is believed to have been witnessed by a large number of people. Some of the businesses have CCTV systems that may have recorded the attack.
