Police in Northern Ireland are investigating an incident in which a shot was fired through the window of a house in Downpatrick last night.

The shot was fired at a house in the Seaforde Road area of the town at around 11.15pm. No-one was injured.

The PSNI are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

Elsewhere, a pipe bomb was made safe outside a house in west Belfast.

Police said the device, described as viable, was found in Lenadoon Avenue late last night.

Army bomb disposal experts, and the security alert ended at about 2.30am.
