Gardaí in Limerick are investigating four separate shootings at houses on the southside of the city between 1am and 3am yesterday.

Detectives were trying to establish a motive for the attacks, which took place on houses in Southill, Hyde Road, Byrne Avenue and in the Clarina Avenue area of Ballinacurra Weston.

Nobody was injured in any of the shootings. It is believed shotguns were used in all of them.

Gardaí from Roxboro station spent yesterday interviewing the occupants of the houses concerned, and house-to-house inquiries in the general area were also being carried out.

"If action is not taken now we are merely setting the seeds for yet another social disaster in our housing estates," she said.
