Sinn Fein in Limerick has distanced itself from claims that Limerick Corporation workers and contractors are being intimidated while removing IRA slogans from city sites. Ms Jenny Shapland, the party's chairwoman in the city, said: "Limerick Sinn Fein wishes to state first and foremost that it does not condone wanton vandalism in any form and neither does it condone the supposed intimidation of corporation workers. We do not know of any republican member involved."
The allegations were originally made by Fianna Fail TD for Limerick East Mr Willie O'Dea. The city manager, Mr Maurice Moloney, told a recent meeting of Limerick City Council that he had received no reports of intimidation.
