Strike action by staff at the one of the State’s best-known tourist attractions, the Cliffs of Moher, is to commence today. Last night, the company operating the centre said it had contingency plans to ensure the attraction stayed open. The Siptu members account for about 20 of the 50 staff. It is not known if the non-union staff will pass the picket this morning.
The staging of the strike action follows Siptu members last night rejecting a revised offer from the council subsidiary, the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre Ltd. At the centre of the dispute is the company’s refusal to implement a Labour Court recommendation that workers receive the same pay and conditions as their counterparts at Clare County Council. The Cliffs of Moher company last night expressed disappointment at the union’s decision to proceed with the strike action.
