SIPTU-represented workers at the Dairygold plants in north Cork have voted "overwhelmingly in favour" of industrial action.
The result of the three-day ballot was released this afternoon. SIPTU official Mr John Cooney told RTÉ radio "we will be informing the company of the result of the ballot and obviously we will be pending strike action or industrial action."
The three-day ballot followed a claim by the union that some workers have been forced out of work as part of a redundancy programme that will see 500 workers leave the company.
According to the union, the company has not abided agreed industrial-relations procedures and changes.
However, Dairygold management advised against the ballot and sent a letter to staff stating that the restructuring would lead to a bright future for the company.
