The ESB this evening said there is no immediate threat to electricity supplies after SIPTU served strike notice on it for April 23rd.
The estimated 550 SIPTU members in the firm voted earlier this week to strike in pursuit of a 28 per cent pay claim.
An ESB spokesman urged the trade unions to use the agreed industrial relations procedures that have served the unions and the company so well in the past.
The nature and extent of the April 23rd action will be decided tomorrow but SIPTU sources indicated this evening an all-out strike was the likely option.
