Four people were killed and three injured in two separate road accidents in Cos Galway and Mayo last night. Two other people died in accidents in Co Wexford and Dublin. The accidents in the two western counties happened within 25 minutes of each other and just seven miles apart during severe weather early yesterday evening.
Two men and a woman died after a collision between two cars at Balrickard, a mile outside Headford, Co Galway, at 5.20 p.m. One of the men and the woman were travelling in one car.
The bodies were taken to University College Hospital in Galway.
Just 25 minutes later, a man was killed in an accident near Ballinrobe, Co Mayo. The man, thought to be aged about 50, was travelling with his wife and two daughters when the accident happened on the road between the village of Neale and Ballinrobe. The injured were taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash. None of the deceased had been named last night.
In an accident in Co Wexford earlier yesterday, an 18-year-old man was killed.
The two-car collision happened at Polehore, Killurin, at around 12.10 p.m.
The victim, who lived locally, has not yet been named.
While in Dublin, a 43-year-old woman died in the Mater Hospital early this morning following an accident last night in which she was knocked down by a car on the Malahide Road. She has not been named.
