A Co Mayo man, Mr Eamon Flaherty (28), from Castlebar was killed instantly when the car he was driving was in collision with another vehicle at Milltown near Tuam, Co Galway, at 3.20 a.m. yesterday.

Gardai are investigating the death of Ms Phyllis Mullan (41) of East Hill, Cobb, Co Cork who fell overboard and was struck by the propellors of a local ferry on which she was travelling with her husband and two children on Friday night.

Three people died in a two car crash near Ballon, Co Carlow, early on Saturday morning. An American couple, Arthur and Chris Rinquist, from New York and a local man, Mr David Lyons (27), died in the accident close to the Ballyhealey Country House Hotel, where the Rinquists had been attending a family wedding.

Meanwhile, the man who died at Dublin Airport when struck by the propellor of a small aircraft has been named as Mr Colm Martin (26), of Park Avenue, Swords. He was married with a young son.

It is believed Mr Martin had marshalled a small cargo plane into a parked position at the time of the accident. He bent down to place chocks in front of the wheels and came into contact with a propellor when he stepped away from the aircraft.
