Monaghan United today crashed out of the FAI Carlsberg Cup at the hands of Skerries Town. The non-league minnows had Ed Doherty to thank as his 56th minute effort sealed their passage to the third round.
Longford Town had to come from behind to beat Tolka Rovers. Alan Kirby struck after 28 minutes to cancel out Stephen Murphy's first minute opener.
However, the league cup finalists kicked on after the break and soundly beat their opponents with Brian Byrne, Shane Barrett and an own goal from Paul Whelan rounding off a comfortable win at Frank Cooke Park.
Elsewhere, Alan O'Connor gifted Dublin City a 1-0 win over Portmarnock at Clonshaugh while Bohemians play Dundalk at Oriel Park at 6.30 p.m.
