The British broadcasting group Sky is to create more than 800 jobs in Dublin with the establishment of a new customer service centre.
The new positions will come on-stream over the next two years, with opportunities ranging from customer service manager roles to training jobs. Sky will begin recruiting immediately.
The new customer service centre will open in August in Burlington Plaza in Dublin's city centre. The broadcasting group said the centre will enable it to serve its Irish customers from one dedicated site for the first time.
This morning's announcement forms part of Sky's plan to bring more of its customer service workforce in-house and ensure its own people deal with customer issues. The new Dublin site will be the broadcaster's tenth customer service centre.
Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton said the announcement represented a “very welcome vote of confidence in our workforce and in the Irish economy” by a leading company.
Commenting, Labour TD Kevin Humphreys said: "It is a sign of confidence in the future of Ireland and Dublin," adding: "We still have a mountain to climb in tackling the high rate of unemployment but this Government has made a continuous series of policy announcements since taking office."
Sky already employs more than 18,000 people across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
