The Irish music industry rolled out the red carpet for the 2005 Meteor Ireland Music Awards at the Point in Dublin last night.
Snow Patrol were the most notable winners on the night, picking up two of the major awards, Best Irish Band, and Best Irish Album for their album, Final Straw. Westlife won their sixth Meteor Award when they were voted Best Irish Pop Act.
The ceremony was hosted by comedian Ed Byrne.
Juliet Turner was one of only two women to win an award - she earned the Best Irish Female title - while Paddy Casey was voted Best Irish Male for the second year running.
Today FM's Ray D'Arcy was voted Best Irish Radio DJ and Planxty were voted Best Folk/Traditional Act.
The Chalets, a new four-piece band from Dublin, won the award for Best Irish New Band, while another Dublin-based act, Angels of Mons, received the Hope for 2005 Award from 2FM's Michael Cahill.
PJ Harvey was named Best International Female, with former Smiths front man Morrissey named as Best International Male.
Scottish band Franz Ferdinand won two awards, Best International Group and Best International Album, while The Killers won the award for Best Visiting Live Performance for their outstanding Olympia Theatre show.
Veteran rockers Aslan were presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Mark Cagney of TV3 and You're a Star judge Hazel Kaneswaren and later performed a medley of their songs.
Musician and Corrs manager John Hughes was presented with the Industry Award by Pat Kenny while Children of Chernobyl campaigner and fundraiser Adi Roche was honoured with the Humanitarian Award and presented with €100,000 for charity by Gerry Ryan. It would help save lives, Ms Roche said.
