The Bishop of Cloyne, William Crean, has been appointed the chairman of Trócaire and a member of the agency’s trustees. He succeeds the Bishop of Clonfert, John Kirby, who has retired as chairman and is due to offer his letter of resignation to the Vatican in October. He will then be 75.

Dr Crean expressed his appreciation for Bishop Kirby’s work over 20 years as Trócaire’s chair. “Bishop Kirby has been a compassionate advocate for Trócaire’s work, and was deeply committed to the pursuit of justice for the world’s poorest people. On behalf of the trustees, board and staff, I thank him for his tireless effort and commitment to his role over many years.”
