The Socialist Party has urged Independent TD Mick Wallace to put necessary information about his tax affairs into the public domain.
On Thursday the Dáil Committee on Members’ Interests said it was powerless to proceed with an inquiry into his tax affairs because it did not receive all the information it requested from the TD.
The party urged him to take his repayment responsibility to Revenue seriously and to bring into repayments any incomes or other assets, as well as his Dáil salary.
His failure to “deal with the controversy” openly would only raise questions among “ordinary working class people” and was “undermining his credibility”, it said.
The party also condemned the attack on Mr Wallace in the media as being in “a personalised and completely inappropriate way”.
