Dublin - European Union foreign ministers hammered out the details of a common security and defence policy and indicated that Mr Javier Solana, the NATO Secretary General, would this week be appointed to the new senior post of EU director of foreign and security policy, the Financial Times reports today.
The former tanaiste and minister for foreign affairs, Mr Dick Spring, and the German European Affairs Minister, Mr Gunter Verheugen, had been mentioned for this new post.
