A SOLDIER at Finner Camp, Co Donegal, has told a young woman in court of his remorse for stalking her and committing a sexual assault on her.

In October 2009, Adrian Gallagher (32), Kinlough, Co Leitrim, followed the woman on her way home from a night club in Bundoran and attacked her.

At Donegal Circuit Court, Judge John O’Hagan, who put Gallagher on the sex offenders register, said the woman was “watched, stalked and set on in a very nasty way”.

In a victim impact statement read by Patricia McLaughlin, prosecuting, the woman said she did not leave her house for seven months after the attack.

“This is the worst thing I have ever done in my life,” Gallagher apologised. “I am so terribly sorry for what I have put you and your family through and for the remorse I feel.” He was remanded on continuing bail awaiting a probation report.
