A silent vigil in solidarity with Irish priests silenced by the Vatican is to take place at the papal nunciature on Dublin’s Navan Road later this month.
Organised by lay Catholic group We Are Church, it will take place on Sunday week, April 29th, from 4pm. The vigil was announced at a press conference by co-ordinators Phil Dunne and Brendan Butler, with theologian Gina Menzies. With them stood a figure with a gag and another with an “anonymous” mask, representing those silenced, “particularly the Irish priests”, and others silenced but not known about publicly.
Ms Dunne called “on all committed Catholics” to take part in the vigil and to call for an end to the silencing by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith “and its secretive procedures”.
