Japanese consumer electronics maker Sony said today the cost of three cellphone recalls in Japan over the past three months would total an estimated 12 billion yen ($95.5 million).
The figure was well below estimates of 20 billion yen or more by several analysts and Japanese media over the past week. Those estimates had assumed a full replacement of handsets still held in inventory by NTT DoCoMo Inc, Japan's dominant mobile telecoms carrier.
The recalls involved one model sold by DoCoMo and two models sold by KDDI Corp.
