South Dublin County Council has agreed to sell 11 hectares of land for more than €6 million to a Spanish pharmaceutical giant.
At their monthly meeting councillors approved the sale of 11 hectares at Grange Castle Business Park to create a life sciences global healthcare facility for Grifols Worldwide Operations Limited.
Grifols is a Barcelona-based company that specialises in blood plasma products. It has operations in Spain and the US.The application to purchase the land was received through IDA Ireland. The land was sold at €550,000 a hectares to the company leading to a purchase price of €6.05 million.
The company must submit a full planning application for the site by June 30th next year.
Grifols is the third-largest plasma derivative producer in the world with a presence in 90 countries. It has also a significant presence in North America with the recent purchase of the company Talecris. The company had revenues of €1.8 billion last year and profits of €50.28 million. Revenues were up 17 per cent in the first quarter.
Grange Castle Business Park is owned by South Dublin County Council and is marketed by the IDA as an ideal location for a cluster of life science companies.
