SEOUL - President Kim Young-sam of South Korea, seeking to restore his political fortunes following a loans scandal, has appointed a new prime minister with a reputation for political integrity.
Mr Koh Kun (59) was a mayor of Seoul from 1988-90 under the former president, Mr Roh Tae-woo, but quit the post after a dispute with Mr Roh's administration involving a corrupt land deal.
Mr Koh currently is head of Myongji University. He would replace the Prime Minister, Mr Lee Soo-sung, after the appointment is approved by the National Assembly, a spokesman said.
