Warning of the danger of an impending outbreak of stupendous road rage because of Dublin's chronic traffic problems, Mrs Therese Ridge (FG), strongly advocated penalty-based measures to restrict single-occupant cars to slower traffic lanes at peak hours. Steps were urgently needed to tackle the city's appalling traffic problems, she said. The Garda authorities had said they did not know how much longer they would be able to cope with the growing volume of traffic. The school holiday last Monday had produced traffic-free outer suburbs because no parents had been driving their offspring to school. "I am convinced that young people cannot walk any more," she said.
