London - The Spice Girls faced a bill of £1 million sterling in damages and legal costs after a British court ruled the band had misled the Italian scooter maker Aprilia SpA over a sponsorship deal.
Aprilia said it developed a special version of one of its scooters called Sonic Spice and claimed the promotion became an expensive flop when Geri Halliwell, then known as Ginger Spice, quit the band in May 1998 to go solo.
The damages and costs will be worked out at another hearing later this year, when the question of an appeal will also be considered.
