The Irish Sports Council has awarded its latest round of grants totalling €63,500 to the State's leading amateur golfers today.
A total of 42 recipients across the board benefitted from the grants with Walker Cup player Noel Fox and Brian McElhinney from North West claiming the top grants of €5,000.
Fox also won the Irish Amateur Open Championship and the Willie Gill Order of Merit this year.
Athlone's Colm Moriarty, who played alongside Fox on the winning Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team, and Justin Kehoe (Birr) still picked up 4,000 despite joining the professional ranks several months ago.
The grants are allocated based on specific criteria agreed by the Irish Sports Council and the sports amateur governing body, The Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) in respect of national and international competition and training costs for 2003.
