Staff and volunteers at a youth project have paid tribute to "the enthusiasm and energy" of a man who died alongside his wife in what the PSNI said was a tragic domestic incident in Co Down on Tuesday.

Andrew and Caroline Kewley died from gunshot wounds at their home in a rural part of Co Down near the village of Mayobridge. The PSNI is not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Mr Kewley worked for the Where Is My Public Servant Project (Wimps) for young people in Belfast. The organisation has posted a detailed message of sympathy on its website which stressed his commitment to young people and the value of his work to their organisation.

"The staff, board, volunteers and participants in the work of public achievement are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of our colleague Andrew Kewley, known to all as Tully," the message read. "As the co-ordinator of the Wimps project, Tully has worked with several hundreds of young people over the past three years . . . the Wimps website in particular is populated with many examples of his work and his ability to motivate and support even the most disaffected young people in our communities."

The organisation would not comment on the manner of their colleague's death.

"At the time of writing, the details of his death and that of his wife Cary are unclear . . . Our deepest sympathy goes to both their families."
