Dutch defender Jaap Stam's positive test for the banned steroid nandrolone has been confirmed by a second (B) analysis of his urine, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said today.
The former Manchester United player was provisionally suspended two weeks ago when CONI announced news of the initial positive test from the Lazio versus Atalanta match on October 13th this year.
The way is now clear for a full disciplinary hearing into the affair with the likely outcome a ban for the Holland international who denies any wrongdoing.
The case is likely to interest Turin magistrate Raffaele Guariniello who is conducting a judicial probe into matters including doping and who has asked to view evidence pertaining to other alleged doping cases.
Stam was the third senior member of the Dutch national side to test positive for nandrolone after Edgar Davids of Juventus and Franck De Boer of Barcelona.
