The Government yesterday confirmed it is to provide €700,000 funding to help local authorities in Cork deal with the aftermath of the June 28th flooding, which caused millions of euro worth of damage.

Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan said he was to provide €300,000 to Clonakilty Town Council, €250,000 to Cork County Council and €150,000 to Cork City Council in recognition of the exceptional costs they incurred as a result of the floods.

Some 500 properties incurred damage when the river Feale burst its banks.
