British Army bomb disposal experts defused a bomb on a railway line between Lurgan and Lisburn after an 11-day security peration, the RUC said this morning.

The RUC said the device - 46 lb of home-made explosive packed in a steel drum and its components - were taken away for further examination after it was defused last night.

The alert started on Sunday February 25th after warnings were issued by telephone and at gunpoint to a railworker in Lurgan in Co Armagh.

The device was said to have been on the stretch of line between Lurgan and Lisburn in Co Antrim.
