SEVERAL CATTLE stolen from farms in the Republic over the past three months have been recovered in a joint police operation involving the Garda and the PSNI.
Some of the livestock stolen from herds in Cavan and Monaghan were located yesterday near Crossmaglen in south Armagh.
Searches extended from the Border area to Co Meath, where a number of cattle herds were also checked by gardaí and Department of Agriculture veterinary officers.
According to gardaí in the Cavan-Monaghan division, 25 cattle were recovered at a farm just across the Monaghan-Armagh border in the North.
Gardaí said a number of farms were searched and herd identification records checked at lands in the Oram and Keady Road areas near Castleblayney.
Some of the livestock was stolen from Ballyhaise, Co Cavan, and Ballybay, Co Monaghan, in July and August. They were estimated to involve herd losses valued at more than €30,000.
A senior Garda spokesman confirmed yesterday that investigations were “ongoing”.
