A LIMERICK man who stole two sausage rolls from a Tesco supermarket could be jailed for three months if a judge activates a suspended sentence.
Jimmy Collins of Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, pleaded guilty at Limerick District Court yesterday to stealing the items worth €2.46 from Tesco at Roxboro Shopping Centre, Limerick, on March 3rd last.
The 46-year-old, who has 33 previous convictions, appeared in court yesterday just two days after shots were fired at his home in Limerick city.
Mr Collins was at home with his family in the early hours of last Monday morning when a number of shots were fired at the front door of his house at about 1.15am.
Nobody was injured in the gun attack, which is the second shooting to take place at the house in a year.
Last April Mr Collins suffered a gunshot wound to his leg when he was shot at 14 times outside his home.
Dressed in a black jacket and tracksuit pants, the 46-year-old entered a guilty plea at Limerick District Court yesterday when his case was called before Judge Tom O’Donnell.
The court heard that Mr Collins was given a three-month suspended sentence by Judge Aeneas McCarthy at the same court on April 24th, 2007, after he was convicted of engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour.
The sentence was suspended on condition that he was of good behaviour for a period of two years.
Before imposing sentence regarding the latest matter yesterday, Judge O’Donnell said the suspended sentence was still “live”.
He adjourned sentencing until May 6th next and said the District Court Office would be making contact with Judge McCarthy with regard to the suspended sentence.
