A development of 355 houses planned for a site near the Strawberry Beds in west Dublin is not to go ahead following a decision by An Bord Pleanala overruling planning permission for the £90 million scheme. The board held that the housing scheme by Shannon Homes would have a significant effect on the environment with particular reference to the Liffey Valley Special Amenity Order.
The detached houses, which were to have been sold for more than £250,000 each, were planned for Laraghcon, Lucan. Access was to have been from the Strawberry Beds Road opposite Lucan bridge.
Socialist Party TD Mr Joe Higgins has said the decision would ensure the integrity of the Liffey Valley.
