A Donegal-based trawler was drifting in heavy seas north of Tory Island last night, after its nets became entangled in the vessel's propeller.
A spokesman for the Irish Marine Emergency Service said an Air Corps Dauphin helicopter from Finner Camp was following the stricken craft, pending the arrival of the Arranmore lifeboat. No casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, a helicopter searched Galway Bay last night, following a report that a light aircraft was seen falling into the sea near Furbo.
The spokesman said a white light was reported falling into the sea. No debris was found and the search, which also involved Galway lifeboat, was later called off.
