Strike action due to commence today at Kingspan’s plant in Kingscourt, Cavan has been deferred after the company agreed to withdraw a threat of lay-offs.
Siptu, the union representing the workers, confirmed the decision to defer the action this afternoon and said they are seeking further discussions with the company on a number of outstanding issues.
Branch organiser Declan Ferry welcomed the company’s decision to withdraw the threat of lay-offs and said normal working arrangements will resume from Tuesday.
Two weeks ago the company issued protective notice to 91 production and engineering staff at Kingspan Ltd’s insulated panel manufacturing plant in the county. As a result, the workers faced being laid off today.
The row centres on a long-drawn out process to agree savings at the plant.
