Schoolchildren and commuters in Northern Ireland could face travel chaos next week if a proposed strike public transport strike goes ahead, it was claimed tonight.
Translink warned as many as 65,000 pupils may have to make alternative arrangements if members of four unions stage a walkout.
Alan Mercer, the company's director of human resources, said: "We are extremely disappointed that the trade unions have decided to strike over changes proposed by the government to public sector pensions.
"These proposed changes, have not yet even been subject to consultation in Northern Ireland.
"The major impact will be to inconvenience passengers, especially the schoolchildren we carry to and from school each day and those others who depend on us for travel to work, medical treatment, education and visiting friends and relatives."
Translink confirmed the trade unions ATGWU, AMICUS, TSSA and Siptu have informed the company they intend to stage a one-day strike on March 28th.
