Harare - Violence marked Zimbabwe's nationwide antigovernment strike yesterday in which one rioter was shot dead and several injured. The strike has pushed Zimbabwe's crisis-ridden economy closer to disaster, as its commitment to the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo is intensifying social tension. The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) called yesterday's strike to protest at government mismanagement of the economy and rocketing inflation. The strike closed factories, shops and businesses. Most striking workers heeded the ZCTU's advice to stay home.
