Dry weather is forecast for the weekend and the warm spell is expected to continue into next week.
If the good weather holds it will give the country relief from the infamous curse of St Swithin, alleged to have struck Ireland with 40 days of rainfall since St Swithin's Day on July 15th.
Meteorologist Deirdre Lowe from Met Éireann said that although the legend of St Swithin was "complete rubbish", it had come to pass after a light drizzle fell in parts of the west yesterday.
Ms Lowe said that there was a mainly dry week ahead, with sunny weather expected tomorrow, particularly in southern areas and that fresh winds would keep the temperature in the low 20s.
Ms Lowe said that misty mornings would develop into sunny afternoons and that it would be cool in most areas at night.
AA Roadwatch have issued warnings about the Tour of Ireland cycle race which will result in delays today along a circuit taking in Cong, Westport, Louisburgh, Leenane and Galway city.
Tomorrow, there will be delays along the route from Athlone to Dublin via Kinnegad. The area around Merrion Square will be closed for traffic.
Tullamore will be closed all weekend for the Fleadh Cheoil and traffic will be diverted via the Ring Road.
The Dublin City Triathlon is also taking place today in the Pheonix Park. Knockamaroon Road, Acres Road and the main road from the Phoenix Monument to Mountjoy Cross will be closed until the late afternoon. Islandbridge and Chapelizod Gates will also be closed.
