Retailer SuperValu today said the value of its sales in the State grew by 8 per cent to €1.67 billion in the 12 months to the end of December.
The company said it plans to open ten new outlets over the next 12 months and spend €150 million in refurbishing existing outlets.
SuperValu plans to open supermarkets at Watchcross in Limerick; Letterkenny; Sligo town; Clonmel; Navan; Killaloe, Co Clare; Moycullen in Galway; and two new Dublin stores at Ballymun and Rowlagh.
SuperValu will also open outlets in Dublin specialising in fresh food. The company has targeted premises on O'Connell Street, Aston Quay, Talbot Street, and North King Street.
According to Supervalue, up to 650 staff will be required for these outlets, with the refurbishment programme expected to require an additional 250 workers.
Musgrave SuperValu-Centra operates the SuperValu franchise and services more than 600 independently owned SuperValu and Centra outlets in Ireland.
